How to care for hair extensions

If you want your hair extensions looking good all the time, you need to take care of them just as you would with your own hair. All you need to know is a few basic care instructions as outlined below.

Before the washing process it is important to remove tangles with a comb. Do not use too much force and brush your hair gently.

Washing extensions

Shampoo and conditioner are to be used to ensure the best and longest durability. Do not rub the hair when washing. You can use a standard, gentle shampoo and conditioner. Please make sure you are using professional hair cosmetics.

You do not need to wash extensions more than about once or twice a month. Of course, if you and your clip ins have spent an evening at the night club, there's the other reason to wash them – removal of odours.

Carefully rinse the hair extensions SEPARATELY with tepid water. Place a small amount of shampoo specifically formulated for chemically treated hair in the palm of your hand. The shampoo should be applied to the hair in a downward motion from the top of the extensions to the ends. Gently use the shampoo until the hair is visibly clean, then rinse the hair thoroughly under tepid water until all shampoo has been completely removed. Be thorough in the rinsing process as improper rinsing may result in damage of the hair.

A small amount of conditioner should be applied as before by using a downward motion, refraining from twisting, rubbing or scrubbing the hair. We would recommend you leave the conditioner on for up to 5 minutes then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. Gently dry the hair with towel to remove excess water.

Other extensions:

Wash extended hair as often as you need to wash your own hair. Always use special hair cosmetics.

Other extensions:

When you sleep or excercise make a ponytail. Cover your hair with a hair cap if you are planning to go swimming. Don´t forget, chlorine-treated water or salty water on beaches can tangle and mess up your hair.
Do not go to sleep with wet hair.

Brushing and drying extensions

  • Brushing intensity should be at least 2 or 3 times a day.
  • Don´t brush hair extensions, when they are very wet.
  • Use a soft brush and start at the ends and then go towards the roots to remove any tangles.

Don't blow dry your hair to get them dry quicker, it makes the hair fall out much quicker. It is best to let your hair dry naturally.
